Robbie Amell is smoldering in this new feature for August Man Malasia‘s June 2013 issue.

The 25-year-old Tomorrow People actor opened up to the glossy about what he does in his free time, what kinds of movies he likes, and how he started acting. Check it:

On his hobbies: “I’m obsessed with cars and love sports (especially hockey). I have a beautiful girlfriend of five years and we have two small dogs… very small. I am very close with my family, and I play a LOT of golf.”

On his favorite films: “I’m a fan of all types of movies, all different genres. I guess I prefer darker and R-rated comedies to slapstick or goofy comedies. Somebody like Robert Downey Jr. is hilarious, but you don’t feel like he’s trying to be funny.”

On how and when he started acting: “I grew up playing hockey in Toronto until I was 17. My mom got me into commercials and print work when I was young, but hockey took up so much time that I hadn’t been to an audition in three years. My agent called me with my first ever movie audition for Cheaper by the Dozen 2. I booked it, quit hockey, and became an actor.

May 9 was a big day for Robbie Amell.

Yesterday, it was announced that the Tomorrow People pilot for Amell, whose previous credits include such projects as Revenge, Alcatraz, and Scooby Doo films, will indeed be becoming a series on The CW. The Tomorrow People is based on the classic British series, which itself was remade for Nickelodeon in the mid-1990′s.

We caught up with Amell at the F*ck Cancer event hosted by his cousin, Arrow’s Stephen Amell, last night in West Hollywood, California, and of course, the first question we jumped on was to try and find out if Amell had seen the original Tomorrow People. He told us that they didn’t make him do it, but he chose to watch them himself. “No matter what you’re doing, no matter how long ago it was, you always want to have some sort of homage to the original,” he confirmed, expressing his confidence with how the new Tomorrow People pilot turned out. “It’s very modernized, it’s very exciting, it’s very fast, it’s very good,” he said, and he confirmed that, yes, TIM the computer is a part of the series. “He’s actually one of the funniest parts of the show,” he said.

Robbie plays “Stephen,” the newest and possibly most powerful of the Tomorrow People, on the new series. Has he thought yet about where the show might end up on The CW schedule, which is announced Thursday, May 16?

“I don’t care where we end up. I mean, obviously there are places I’d like to be. I’d like to be anywhere close to Arrow! But, I couldn’t be more excited about it. This is what I’ve been having my fingers crossed for, and just praying would happen, since I booked this show. Before we even started filming. You don’t want to jump the gun, but you want it to be a series. You don’t shoot a pilot for it to be a pilot; you shoot a pilot for it to be the first episode of a hundred, and hopefully next week is just the beginning.”

The Tomorrow People was, of course, not the reason Amell was out last night — the real reason for the evening was the event to F*ck Cancer. Robbie also talked to us a bit about what brought him to the event. “We’re just lucky to be able to be here and do whatever we can to help out. Watching Stephen use the fame and the pull that he’s created over the last year with Arrow, and turning it into something like this, and helping people, especially with a cause so close to him with his mom beating breast cancer once and now, knock on wood, beating it again, which is amazing. She’s such an incredible woman. It just feels nice to be able to come out here and do what little bits you can,” he said.

We should have photos and hopefully clips from The Tomorrow People next week, as The CW formally announces their schedule at that time.
